Making a decision about whether to attend animation school can be tough. You love to draw but you just aren't sure if that alone is enough to merit the sacrifices required to pursue an animation career. Plus, your parents think you should pursue a career that's more traditional, like selling insurance or practicing law. Answer the following questions with a "yes" or "no" to get a better sense of where you stand on the issue.
  1. When you're with a group of people, you find that you're often the storyteller in the bunch.
  2. While other people are singing in the shower, you're trying out funny voices to match a character you've been developing.
  3. You dream about the characters you've developed more than your significant other.
  4. While your friends are watching American Idol or the latest Survivor series, you're sketching out a storyboard.
  5. As a child, your Mother's Day cards were written as comic book sketches.
  6. In junior high school, you often got into trouble for doodling (you were drawing something brilliant, of course) in class. Your teachers would punish you with detention, where you doodled (or sketched) even more.
  7. You never outgrew your fondness for spending Saturday mornings watching cartoons.
  8. You named your dog after Road Runner's nemesis, Wile E. Coyote.
If you answered "yes" to the majority of these questions, you're probably a good candidate for animation school. Animation may be a tough career to enter, but if you've got a passion for drawing and developing characters, you may be well-served by following your heart and pursuing an education and career in animation.
